"Liz Skidmore, a Business Representative and Organizer for the New England Regional Council of Carpenters in Boston, Massachusetts, worked in the field for 10 years before redirecting her skills and love for the trade from physical labor to working directly for the union, organizing unrepresented carpenters. Today, she also fights for women’s rights in the field and to bring equality to the workplace." We had another successful WIC Week this year! Our chapter members worked very hard to collect over 500 new and used children’s books over several weeks leading up to WIC Week. Catherine Schoenenberger held a Women’s Night Out event at a local restaurant where many of these books were collected by her close family and friends! All of the books will be donated to a local shelter for women and children, along with the three beautiful pine bookshelves we made during our 2nd Annual Women's Build. We had seven (7) members participate in the build and it was a great bonding event as usual while sharpening our building skills. Thanks to Elaine Hamel of Girls at Work for coordinating this event with me and allowing us to use her shop!
Since our chapter is so involved with the community we like to call it “WIC month” as we usually can't cram all our events into one week. I was able to participate in three different high school career events where I shared my passion for careers in construction, public works and engineering. Catherine joined me this year at the Goffstown High School “Human Library Project” where we had one on one interviews with over a dozen students giving us an opportunity to share our experiences and to spark interest in the next generation. The Girls at Work, Inc. Diva Comedy Night will be an evening of hilarious stand-up with top-billed comediennes on Saturday, March 28 at the New Hampshire Institute of Art in Manchester, NH! Go to their website for more info on thsi awesome fundraising event!
